Marry, Date, or Dump

This selection of Speak Now...was inspired by last night's Emmy's broadcast (which was less than inspiring to say the least). Who's it gonna be, ladies? Drama, Comedy, or Reality?

Patrick Dempsey, Steve Carell, Jeff Probst

Marmee:

Don't comment on the men in particular, but on the genre. Would you rather a drama man, a comedy man, or a reality man???

This is a hard question. It is a toss up between drama and comedy. However, I think I would have to go with drama. They always say the perfect thing at the perfect time. Reality? Really? Isn't that what you get in real life? I mean, if you actually marry, date, or dump anyone. :)

okay i get it. but, i am influenced by the roles they play. i can't help it.
i agree with mjm reality is too real-dump! where is the passionate man? i guess that would be drama-marry! although i have had enough drama to last a lifetime. (i guess you get what you ask for).
that leaves the funny man(which is far overrated)-date and then dump, immediately.

Okay, swimmers, we're going deep...

Drama: No thanks. I don't want more drama in my life. I don't want a man who is dramatic because that's my role in the relationship! (I'm not talking about thespians, which I'm all for...as long as we're talking straight thespians of course); I want a man who is a serious thinker, but no roller coasters please! That's what PMS is for.

Comedy: It's good to laugh. Barring the comedians who use comedy as a shield to mask their insecurities or their 300 pound gut, I like a man who can make me laugh. Sadly, many comedy-types also have mental issues and some serious problems with committed relationships. So, hmm, not so sure. I don't want knock, knock jokes but the ability to laugh at life and one's self is priceless.

Reality: Like mjm said, isn't this what we already have? Not those reality-TV types: those camera-hogging, fame-craving, attention-loving goofballs. But reality reality. I guess on paper I'd say I prefer reality. If by reality we mean we can each be ourselves and be okay with it. Honesty. Integrity. Real.

Otherwise, give me a little Dempsey on dates, a little Carell in the everyday (not DunderMifflin, but Dan in Real Life), and Probst never. The tribe has spoken.

deep you deep ha!
you are always thinking!
love the things you said. especially:
"If by reality we mean we can each be ourselves and be okay with it. Honesty. Integrity. Real."

that is really what it is all about, someone loving us for being ourselves.

so, as usual, i am a little late in commenting, as this group just didn't inspire me at all! but, based on just the premise of 'the genre', i did have some thoughts, without referring to these particular gents.

not the drama man - he would always be 'on' when he wanted to perform for you, and 'off' when he was not the star! egotistic, no sincerity there at all!

not the reality man - he would always look at life under the microscope - searching into every itty-bitty microorganism of your relationship for the details, and trying to organize, control and manipulate every circumstance in his favor! not!

give me the comedy man - like Dan in 'Real Life' - who can look at life with a good humor, laugh even at himself and give others a little break on their weaknesses, sensitive to the social awkwardness of everyday life situations and makes them easier to handle, doesn't think tragedy at every downturn, but how to lighten the load - and usually appreciates a loving, responsive, understanding reaction to his personality! i love to laugh out loud, and good humor can help any one make it through the day!
